‘Tokyo 2020 D&I (Diversity & Inclusion) Actions’ and TOKYO SKYTREE’s D&I Actions. TOKYO SKYTREE agrees with the purpose and philosophy of ‘Tokyo 2020 D&I (Diversity & Inclusion) Actions – Towards a society where everyone is free to live as who they are (Tokyo 2020 D&I Actions)’ that has been promoted by the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. By taking this opportunity, we are also pleased to inform TOKYO SKYTREE’s D&I actions along with the objectives of the Tokyo 2020 D&I Actions as an official supporter of Tokyo 2020 Games.
The Tokyo 2020 Games has built its Games Vision "Sport has the power to change the world and our future" on three core concepts: "achieving personal best", "unity in diversity" and "connecting to tomorrow". Our new initiative called “Tokyo 2020 D&I Actions -Towards a society where everyone is free to live as who they are-“ has also been built on the vision and the three concepts.
The pandemic of Coronavirus Disease 2019 has brought a new form of social stigma and discrimination and has deepened social divides. Amidst these challenging circumstances, the Tokyo 2020 Games aims to provide opportunities for a diversity of people involved in the Games with different characteristics to utilize their unique skills and abilities for the Games while acknowledging, respecting, and valuing differences in others in cooperating with each other.
Each person engaged in the Tokyo 2020 Games aims to build an inclusive society, where everyone can be true to themselves by respecting each other, without discrimination of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, impairment, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.
The Tokyo 2020 Games has brought us an opportunity to consider necessary D&I actions for our society and future, which must continue to grow even after the Games.
As one of the official supporters of the Tokyo 2020 Games, TOKYO SKYTREE agrees with the ‘Tokyo 2020 D&I Actions’ that has been promoted by the Tokyo Organising Committee.
In September 2020, TOKYO SKYTREE installed a monument ‘W1SH RIBBON’ which our guests write their number 1 hopes or wishes on a ribbon and tie it to the monument with their hopes and wishes to come true. In the name of ‘W1SH RIBBON’, the number ‘1’ is used in place of the letter ‘I’ to symbolize what people wish for most of all as TOKYO SKYTREE is the world’s tallest tower.
On April 22, 2021, we have launched a global campaign “W1SH RIBBON DISCOVER & CONNECT THE WORLD” which is designed to gather and connect people’s hopes and wishes from all over the world in conjunction with the W1SH RIBBON project that aims to promote unity, diversity, and inclusion. Through this global campaign, we have been promoting and informing activities that to develop an atmosphere to create a society that is based on diversity and equality.
Since our grand opening in 2012, TOKYO SKYTREE has been welcoming visitors from the world as an open facility where diverse of people regardless of gender, race, age, disability or other status can feel fun and enjoy their time comfortably and safely.
In this global campaign, we created an original campaign song, a music video, and pamphlets with our messages “know differences, show differences, accept wide range of values, and equality for all people” and present them in the observation deck as well as informing through our official website and SNS to all over the world. In addition, we have installed a symbolic monument “Tree of Hope” to represent our “hope” that TOKYO SKYTREE will be the “Tree of Hope” of the world. There are colorful W1SH RIBBONs tie to the monument displaying many of our gust’s wishes.
Our hope is to relate the thoughts of people all over the world, and to make as many wishes come true as possible. We will continue our best effort to do our D&I actions towards a society where everyone is free to live as who they are even after the Tokyo 2020 Games.
